UNO Technology
Drivers
The outmost care at choosing the drivers is the key to successfully
transforming the theoretical advantages of the horn technology
into an outstanding High End speaker.
The M1-N is a 130mm (5 in) midrange driver with a 75mm (3 in)
dome especially developed for the NANO and optimised for a large,
linear movement. This way the M1-N has a very low cut-off frequency
with seamingless and crossover-less integration to the subwoofer.
The design of the dome ensures a phase-neutral radiation of the
sound waves into the midrange horn SH5002 and wide bandwidth of
the extended midrange down to 290 Hz. The Avantgarde Acoustic proprietary
CDC system features a controlled roll-off at 3,000 Hz, and allows
us to completely eliminate all passive crossover components in
the signal path. This way the M1-N gets the pure and non-distorted
full-range signal directly from the amplifier!
H1-N is a high-frequency tweeter providing an extremely wide frequency
range reaching down to 1 kHz. Based upon the same design principle
of the nearly "legendary" TRIO tweeter H3, the H1-N offers
very low distortion and excellent transient characteristics.
The over-dimensioned magnet structure of the tweeter, weighing
3 kg (6.5 lb), results in a sound pressure level of 104 dB (1Watt/1m)
at very high power rating.
More details and information about the principles of horn and
driver design can be found under THEORY.
Subwoofer
The UNO is supplied with the active subwoofer SUB225, which is
driven by two powerful 25 cm (10 inch) long-excursion drivers.
The integrated active electronics consists of a powerful 250 watt
class A/B amplifier and an active frequency crossover. The active
crossover allows the adjustment of a number of parameters thus
ensuring a very easy and fast installation of the system even in
acoustically critical situations.
The SUB225 is an actively controlled subwoofer. A real-time feedback
loop not only eliminates deviations of the amp itself, but also
the deviations of the drivers. As result the SUB225 achieves an
astonishingly flat frequency response down to 18 Hz!
The SUB225 is driven via high power WBT speaker terminals for
direct connection to integrated amps, power amplifiers or receivers
or alternatively via XLR terminals. The signal take-off is not
only at high impedance, but is also balanced and transformer coupled.
This floats the subwoofer ground, avoiding hum loops and eases
connection to balanced and bridged amplifier designs.
The enclosure of the SUB225 is constructed from 1.2" MDF
(30mm). Designed with a centrally located reinforcing stabilizer,
the box construction is very rigid, avoiding resonances.
Mechanical construction (Patent pending)
The midrange is mounted into circular housing tubes. A three pillar
steel-tube frame is used to support the midrange horn with knurled
screws on lateral fixtures. Special connectors between frame rails
and subwoofer enclosure provide for efficient vibration control.
The tweeter unit occupies a specially designed sealed enclosure
in the top part of the subwoofer. The speaker is equipped with
four propriety spikes, conveniently located on the brackets of
the bottom casted aluminium frame. |
